The Board of Assessment Review (BAR) is a 5-member appointed board and appointments are staggered and members serve a 5-year term. Each board members must complete state mandated training, before they can serve.
Taxpayers who believe their property assessment is too high, are encouraged to first discuss this with their assessor. If, after that meeting, they are still dissatisfied, they have a right to file a formal complaint with the Board of Assessment Review by the filing deadline. Typically this deadline, called Grievance Day, is held on the 4th Tuesday in May. The tentative date for the next Grievance Day 2020 is May 26, 2020, with hours to be announced.
